The decarbonization of long-haul deliveries is a top priority in today’s logistics sector. As new technologies such as Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV), Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO), Hydrogen Vehicles continue to evolve, drivers and their skills remain crucial in making an immediate impact. Girteka Group’s latest Eco League season demonstrates that with proper education, ongoing training, and digital support, progress can be achieved.
Exceptional Results from the Latest Eco League Season
This season, eight drivers reached the remarkable milestone of achieving 100 points in eco-driving. Topping the leaderboard was Roman Dyachuk, a Girteka driver with seven years of experience. Roman had come close to first place several times before, but this season, he emerged as the clear winner. His performance speaks for itself – driving the most kilometers with a perfect eco-driving score of 100, and fuel consumption that was 2.4 liters per 100 km lower than the company’s average.
Small Change, Huge Impact: The Scale of Eco-Driving
Continuous education brings tangible effects. The difference between the top performers and those at the lower end of the eco driving leaderboard is significant. Drivers in the top tier are reducing their fuel consumption by as much as 2.5 liters per 100 kilometers compared to those with less developed eco-driving skills.
“The education we provide to our drivers is truly working. In Q3 alone, we’ve seen over 50% of our drivers adopt more sustainable driving practices. This is not just about fuel savings – it’s about a real commitment to reducing emissions and driving in a way that benefits both the environment and the business,” says Karolina Žekaitė, Training Center Manager.
On a large scale, considering the 6.5 million trucks circulating across the EU, even a modest reduction of 2 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers through eco-driving can have a massive impact. If all these trucks adopted eco-driving practices, the cumulative fuel savings would lead to a significant decrease in emissions. This effort could result in a reduction of over 40 million tonnes of CO2 emissions annually, underscoring the transformative potential of eco-driving on the logistics industry and the environment.[1]
Digital Solutions: Supporting Drivers with Fleethand
